Writing helps
I listened to a Ted Talk this morning, and I was intrigued by the title of the talk, “Can we edit memories?” It was given by Behavioural neuroscientist Amy Milton who researches to understand how memories are updated in the brain.
Numerous thoughts run in the human mind in a single day. Some of them are happy, and some of them are troubling. I understand we can’t simply edit them, but as the speaker said, we could consolidate them. Not only the speaker mentioned above, but every other self-help book author suggests keeping a journal.
As a child, I never appreciated the idea of writing in a diary. But being an adult, I really like this approach. Sometimes writing your tangled thoughts helps in opening the knots. Also, drafting joyous moments or thoughts captures a beautiful memory that you can go through later and reminisce about it.
